Robert Penne, M.D.Robert B. Penne, M.D. Dr. Penne is an Attending Surgeon and the director of the Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Department at Wills Eye Hospital. He is also co-director of the Ocular Cicatricial Pemphigoid Clinic. He attended medical school at the University of Minnesota, completed his internship at Hennepin County Medical Center, and did his ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital. After residency, he did a fellowship in Neuro-orbital disease followed by a fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Wills Eye Hospital.

Where were you born and raised?

I was born in Williston, North Dakota and grew up in North Dakota and Minnesota. I also attended college at North Dakota State University and graduated first in the class.

What is your favorite part about being an ophthalmologist?

Vision is a critical function not only for our bodies, but for our lives. I love being able to improve the quality of life for my patients.

How many years have you been practicing ophthalmology?

I have been practicing ophthalmology for 26 years.

Favorite thing to do outside of work?

I like to put on my sneakers and run distance. I also love spending time with my family.
